Synopsis

A mysterious dragon statue, a secret scroll, a dive down to the Titanic, unkillable Ninjas, Airplane battles and a (brief) Fujiko shower scene… that is more than enough to scratch my Lupin The Third itch. I would not exactly call this a Goemon-centric episode but his part is a bit bigger and juicier than usual. He has some great fights in this one including one against an indestructible bomber plane at the finale.
I said it before, but I really like the 90’s Lupin animation style. Sure, this is a made for TV special but it is really well doe and most of the characters get their time to shine. Except for Zenigata, only pops in a couple…

Series: Lupin the Third Ranked
Weird to say it, but this is my favorite Lupin movie so far. It has ths usual reasons to love the Lupin series obviously: great animation, hilarious interactions, fun isolated adventures; but it also really boosts some things into overdrive.
The big example of this is Goemon. In the first five minutes he dismantles an entire building in five seconds with just his sword. Its beautiful to watch and having him at such a crazy power level introduces all sorts of fun antics. Zenigata also seems extra unhinged when he shows up in the film, going so far as to have something like five hundred police officers fire at Lupin.
